J.R. "Starkey" Steuernagle,
General Manager
Nobody at Woodex knows quite what to make of Starkey. As far as he's concerned,
that's so much the better. A native of northwestern Pennsylvania, Starkey
arrived on the Maine coast as a Navy enlisted man and never left. Rumors that
he spent several years living in trees and abandoned cars are just that, but he
encourages them, nonetheless.
A one-time calligrapher and engrosser, in 1988 he abandoned a career in printing
and graphic arts to develop a technical service organization for Woodex's
MECO Custom shaft seals.
Stark and his wife Laurel live with two rabbits, an ever-smaller
flock of chickens and an escaped
felon from Arkansas.
Starkey is particularly fond of
Chili, and thinks he makes the best
in Maine. This is a subjective opinion, not necessarily
shared by others.
Winter can be a trying time, and extraordinary measures
must often be employed, in order for one to cope. If
you're just plain sick of Winter, try This
Recipe
for
some relief. Readers in the Southern Hemisphere can ignore this statement, and please turn the page upside down.
If, like Starkey, you're not sick of Winter, but actually enjoy getting out and snowshoeing through the woods in it before pigging out on ham soup, you may be interested in these Snowshoe bindings made from old inner tubes. These harnesses work better than any commercial ones he's tried yet.
Starkey's favorite composers are Johann Georg
Albrechtsburger, Willie Nelson, the Gabriellis, Pink Floyd, PDQ Bach, J.S. Bach,
Béla Fleck, Aaron Copland and Flanders and Swann, not necessarily in that
order. Masaaki Kishibe writes some very nice guitar music, and Stark enjoys brutalizing
his fingers of an evening, trying to play it (thanks to his friend Aki from
Osaka). John Knowles is no slouch, either. Stark's favorite vocal group is
DaVinci's Notebook, and he thinks they
could have really made a killing if they'd just quit clowning around and applied themselves. Speaking of DaVinci's Notebook, they left a horse named Harry with Stark. Turns out he's a photojournalist, and if you click on his name, you can follow him on some of his travels.
A handyman of severely-limited competence, Stark takes frequent tips from
The Official Red Green Home Page. Quando omni flunkus moritati.
