Frank Piechowski,
Machinist
Frank came to Woodex in January
of 1991, following his retirement from the U.S. Navy
Submarine Service. His Naval career spanned 26 years,
beginning as a Machinery Repairman, in charge of the
machine shop on the then-aircraft carrier U.S.S.
LAKE CHAMPLAIN. Frank briefly left the Navy,
and spent two years in Ohio, working as a machinist
for TRW.
He then returned to the navy at the height of the Vietnam
War, as an Interior Communications Electrician in the
Submarine Service. On one deployment, Frank traveled
around the world 46 times in a four-hour period (at the
North Pole). Frank worked his way up through the ranks
to become a Chief of the Boat. He retired as the Command
Master Chief Petty Officer for the office of the Supervisor
of Shipbuilding in Bath, Maine.
At Woodex, Frank works as a machinist, manufacturing
parts for MECO custom
shaft seals, but is at times called upon to utilize
his natural technical abilities for special projects.
Evenings and weekends, Frank runs a small business,
12 F.A.P., making small maple wood products:
bookends, doorstops, cutting boards, trivets, paper
towel holders and the like; decorated with a variety
of Maine-related designs. He also does landscape maintenance.
In his spare time, Frank works twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week, three hundred-sixty-five days a year
as an emergency medical technician, firefighter, and
fire investigator for the Georgetown Volunteer Fire
Department. Frank lives in Georgetown, Maine, with his
wife Cheryl. They have a son, Michael, and a daughter, Julie.
Michael & Julie were born on the same day, four years
apart. Frank, his youngest sister Teresa, and their
mother, were all three born on the same day. If nothing
else, the Piechowskis are consistent.
